Here’s the game plan.
Think of ChatGPT as your on-demand Growth Strategist. These eight prompts will guide you to clearly define your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile), uncover your target audience’s pain points, and align them to your key value propositions. You’ll map your GTM faster than you can say “product-market fit.”

These prompts will cover how to:

  • Upload any brand assets you have to ChatGPT. Assets like brand positioning, brand voice, website URLs, and screenshots to ChatGPT to provide context about your business. This is where we feed ChatGPT as much information about your business as possible so it can tailor outreach accordingly.

- Map those pain points directly to the value propositions we offer

- This will help me tailor messaging and outreach strategy accordingly.

🎯 Step 2: Define Your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)

  • Provide detailed information about your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) to ChatGPT. Use the prompt below to describe your ideal customers with enough specificity. A focused description will help create more effective targeted messaging and outreach strategies. Skip any questions you can't answer.

  • If you haven't clearly defined your ICP yet and would like ChatGPT to help generate ideas, use the Step 2.1 Prompt below instead.

Key Questions:

- What industry or vertical are they in? [insert answer before prompting]

- What size is their company (employees, revenue, funding stage)? [insert answer before prompting]

- What are their key roles/titles involved in purchasing? [insert answer before prompting]

- What tools or platforms do they already use? [insert answer before prompting]

- Where do they typically discover or evaluate new products/services? [insert answer before prompting]

- What buying triggers or life-cycle events make them seek a solution like ours? [insert answer before prompting]

💡Step 2.1 Prompt: Use this prompt if you want ChatGPT to generate ideas on who your ICP is.

I need to develop a comprehensive Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) for [company name]. Based on our [product/service] and market position, please help me create a detailed ICP that will guide our targeting and messaging strategies.

Please structure the ICP analysis in these sections:

*Company Demographics:*

- Industry/vertical focus (primary and secondary)
- Company size range (employees and revenue)
- Geographic location(s)
– Business maturity (startup, growth stage, enterprise)
– Organizational structure and complexity
– Technology stack and digital maturity

*Firmographic Qualifiers:*

- Annual budget for solutions like ours

For each section, please be as specific as possible with concrete examples rather than generic descriptions. The final ICP should be detailed enough that anyone in our organization could clearly identify whether a prospect fits your ideal profile.

👤 Step 3: Identify Key Buyer Personas Within Your ICP

  • Ask ChatGPT to generate a list of common decision-maker roles for your defined ICP.

🔎 Step 4: Summarize KPIs for my ICP

  • Ask ChatGPT to summarize a list of KPIs for each decision-maker within your ICP.

Summarize a list of KPIs each decision-maker is typically responsible for. You can group roles by function. Help me understand their performance metrics and priorities.

‼️ Step 5: Uncover Your ICP’s Pain-Points

  • Ask ChatGPT to uncover your ICP’s most common pain points. You’ll want ChatGPT to generate at least 5 key pain points that your product or service is solving.

💡 Step 5 Prompt:

Based on our defined Ideal Customer Profile in the [industry/vertical], I need a detailed analysis of their most significant pain points. 

Identify 5-7 critical pain points our ICP likely experiences, categorized by:

- Operational challenges (day-to-day inefficiencies, resource constraints)
- Strategic obstacles (competitive pressures, market changes, growth barriers)
- Financial concerns (cost structures, revenue challenges, budget constraints)
- Compliance/risk issues (regulatory requirements, security concerns)

For each pain point, provide:

- A clear, concise description of the problem
- The business impact (quantified where possible - e.g., time wasted, costs incurred, opportunities missed)
- Why existing solutions fail to adequately address this issue
- Which specific roles/decision-makers feel this pain most acutely
- Trigger events that might make this pain point suddenly more urgent

Support each pain point with:

- Industry statistics or research that validates its prevalence
- Common language or phrases our ICP might use when discussing this challenge
- Questions we could ask in discovery calls to uncover or confirm this pain point

Rank these pain points by:

- Severity (how much it hurts)
- Urgency (how quickly they need it solved)
- Pervasiveness (what percentage of our ICP likely experiences this)

Focus on specific, tangible problems rather than generic challenges, and prioritize pain points that our solution is particularly well-positioned to address.

🔑 Step 6: Identify Your Key Value Proposition

  • Ask ChatGPT to help you build your key value propositions. You’ll want ChatGPT to generate at least 3 benefits of using your product or service.

  • If you have multiple ICPs, you should have 3-5 key benefits per ICP.

💡 Step 6 Prompt:

Based on everything we've discussed about [company name], our ICP, and their pain points, I need you to develop compelling value propositions that will resonate with our target audience.

Please create 3-5 distinct value propositions that follow this structure:

For each value proposition:

- Start with a clear headline (10-15 words) that captures the core benefit

- Provide a 2-3 sentence explanation that elaborates on the headline

- Include a specific example, use case, or metric that demonstrates the value

- Explain how this directly addresses one or more of our ICP's critical pain points


For each value proposition, answer:

- Which specific decision-maker role(s) will find this most compelling?

- At what stage of the buyer's journey is this value proposition most relevant?

- What objections or concerns might this help overcome?

- How does this differentiate us from competitors?


Rank these value propositions in order of potential impact, considering:

- How urgent the related pain point is for our ICP

- How uniquely or effectively we solve this problem

- How easily we can demonstrate or prove this value

Please ensure each value proposition focuses on outcomes and benefits rather than features, and uses language that resonates with our ICP's priorities and KPIs.

🪝 Step 7: Identify Your Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Ask ChatGPT to identify your Unique Selling Points (USPs), which will help differentiate your company from competitors.

💡 Step 7 Prompt:

I need to identify the strongest unique selling points (USPs) that truly differentiate my company from competitors. Based on the information I've shared about [company name], do the following:

- Analyze our key strengths compared to the main competitors in our space ([list 2-3 competitors if possible])

Identify 3-5 specific USPs that meet these criteria:

- Genuinely unique or significantly better than competitors

- Demonstrable with evidence or metrics

- Directly relevant to our ICP's pain points

For each USP, provide:

- A concise statement (10-15 words) that captures the essence

- A brief explanation of why this matters to our customers

- How to effectively communicate this advantage in marketing materials


Suggest how these USPs could be prioritized for different segments of our ICP.

Please be critical and honest - only include truly distinctive advantages that would influence buying decisions, not generic claims that any competitor could make.

🔑 Step 8: Generate Tailored Email Outreach

  • The final step is to pull together a spreadsheet that aligns pain points with value propositions and generates a tailored email outreach template for each role in your ICP.

Let's compile everything into a spreadsheet format. Using our list of roles by function, identify the 3 strongest value propositions for each role, outline the pain points they address, outline key USPs, and create tailored email outreach templates for each role in our ICP.
